Digital Photo Page
This page presents the results of my attempt to find the cheapest way of
making digital photos and still keep them as much as possible to look like
professional ones. The reader couldn't find here the comparison of the different
types of hardware or software, but there are a few useful hints
how to get and
keep the best quality of your pictures. Finally you can download the freeware
"Slides" program, which allows you to build and view your own slide
presentation. This application offers an easy manipulation of the large files
(more than 4 Mb jpeg), automatically build small preview thumbnails for them, and
provides a tool for selection the viewable area of the image to be optimally
fitted to the computer screen. Now "Slides" supports JPG file
EXIF extension. EXIF tags like 'Author', 'Subject' 'Comment',
'Date image taken' and others are kept in jpeg file. 'Slides' offer
easy tools to modify image EXIF information for multiple files. Going to
different time zone and forgot to adjust time at your digital camera? - Use
slides to offset date image taken. Your spouse was using another camera? -
use slides to rearrange images in Slides show by date taken (Jpg only). Please
mind, if you open JPG file with any editing software, edit image and save
it, you always loose a little image quality. Changing JPG file EXIF tags is also
required to open and save image file but fortunately it does not affect image
buffer itself. Nevertheless 'Slides' always sent a copy of the jpg file to the
'Recycle Bin' folder before changing EXIF tags. If image does not have
thumbnail(small version of the image) 'Slides'
upon clicking reference or file automatically generate it. JPG files keep
thumbnails as a part of EXIF header,, but other types of image files will have
keep thumbnail in reference (see 'Slides' help).
Thus it is important to save slides document to save thumbnails for later
use. There is also a link to very smart shareware
software (see bellow) from ACD.
